How does it work?

The BionicGym is designed to stimulate your leg muscles in a way that mimics shivering. 

 

The inventor of BionicGym, Dr. Louis Crowe, calls this "nature's way of burning calories without doing anything." 

 

A control unit placed inside a pair of leg wraps generates electrical impulses at a frequency of 7 to 8 Hz for optimal energy burn per muscle fiber. The impulses trigger continual muscle contractions, which then demand more oxygen and fuel to continue their effort. 

 

This increases your heart rate and, if you keep on going with the BionicGym, ultimately makes you breathless, delivering a great workout.

Will it hurt?

No! Users may be surprised by the new sensation at first, but it is not painful. It is a pulsating through your thigh that encourages your muscles to contract and relax, contract and relax. It may feel unusual to you at first, which is why it's important to take it at your own pace.

 

You are in full control of the intensity levels and can scale up or down at any time throughout your workout to get used to the new feeling. Use your new BionicGym slowly at the level that feels manageable to you and slowly increase your intensity from there.

 

If you are experiencing any discomfort, pause your workout and readjust your gel pads to ensure they are placed in the midline of your thighs before continuing, and not too high.

 

We also recommend not shaving your legs in this spot, as the skin around your thigh is a tender area.

Can you use it at "easy" levels?

Yes, most people start using it at lower exercise intensity levels, and it still produces results. It's like exercising – you can either walk, jog, or run a marathon. 

 

Remain consistent at these lower intensity levels and gradually increase intensity for more sweat-inducing workouts. You are in full control.

Will it increase my heart rate?

Yes! BionicGym at high intensities makes people sweat, be breathless and the heart races. For many people the heart rate responds immediately in the very first session. As they push up the intensity of the workout their heart rate increases like they were running. 

 

For others, it may take several weeks of training to acclimate. It depends upon your body type and fitness level. Some long distance athletes (with slow-twitch muscle fibers and big efficient hearts) may find that they need to train up these metabolic pathways with their BionicGym first to get a really good response. Likewise for some people who are unfit and lacking 'explosive' cardio-training. Here, we need to train up the muscle fibers to burn sugars at a high rate... then this places a high demand for oxygen and blood flow, increasing your heart rate.

 

The heart rate response is higher when you use your BionicGym standing and also depending on the Workout you choose - we recommend "Twinkle-Toes" standing as it brings in a lot of calf contractions.

How many calories does it burn?

Like the calories burnt on a bicycle, the amount of calories burned per person per session varies over a wide range.

 

When we tested the BionicGym and measured performance with individuals in the lab, we found BionicGym users typically burned 500+ calories in an hour once they were used to the BionicGym and used it at higher intensities.

When will I see results?

As with any workout, the calories burned and the intensity level per workout will affect different bodies at different rates.

 

We recommend you pair your BionicGym workouts with diet and proper sleep for best weight loss results.

 

Continue to increase the intensity and sessions of your workout each week to see best results.

Who should NOT use BionicGym?

Do not use BionicGym if you fall under any of the following categories:

  • Have an electronic implant
  • Pregnant
  • Have given birth or had a cesarean section within the last 3 months
  • Have cancer or epilepsy
  • Recent surgical procedure – consult with your doctor
  • Your leg is currently swollen, infected, or inflamed
  • You have any vascular problems such as clots/DVTs

How long do the gel pads last?

This will depend on how often you use your BionicGym and at what intensity. The sweatier you get during your workouts, the faster the adhesive quality on your gel pads will begin to deteriorate over time.

 

It’s always best practice to allow your gel pads to dry after a workout before placing your protective sheeting back over the sticky side of your pad.

 

You’ll know it’s time to replace your gel pads when it affects your workouts. Typically you’ll notice the sensation against your skin feels a little sharper at the beginning of your session.

 

We highly recommend ordering your BionicGym with the extra packs of gel pads, but you can always order more gel pads separately on the website.
